The City of Oaxaca was awarded as the best Leading Urban Getaway Destination in Mexico and Central America, in the World Travel Awards 2020, considered the “Oscars” of the world tourism industry.
The governor of the state, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, declared that in Oaxaca work is being done to build the necessary conditions to receive tourism, since this activity represents the source of employment for Oaxacan families that are dedicated to artisan production, to the provision of lodging, food and transportation services.
In this sense, he assured that in the four years of his government, actions have been aimed at increasing and strengthening this activity, efforts that have allowed Oaxaca to be considered within the ranking of the safest entities in the country, thereby generating confidence in the visitors.
Likewise, work has been done to improve the infrastructure that allows visitors to enjoy the architectural heritage with which the Historic Center of the city, and the art, gastronomy, nature reserves and beach destinations in the eight regions of Oaxaca.
The capital city featured cities such as Hoi An (Vietnam), Chiang Mai (Thailand), Florence (Italy), Kyoto (Japan), Udaipur (India), Luang Prabang (Laos), Ubud (Indonesia), Jaipur (India), Krakow (Poland), Mexican destinations such as San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City, among other cities in all regions of the world.
This world award was received within the framework of the 27th anniversary of the World Travel Awards brand, known worldwide as the main seal of tourism excellence; created to recognize and reward excellence in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry; and adds to the recent recognition by Travel + Leisure magazine as the best tourist city in the world.
