This is how the corridor of the isthmus of Tehuantepec goes; Train track is 11% advance

The development work of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, which involves one of the most important offshore and coastal ports in the country, Salina Cruz, had an 11% advance as of September 7. Due to its strategic geographical location, this port represents important operations for world trade and therefore the breakwater that is planned to be built in it is a decisive project for the development of this area, being also a key oil port, which even more, within of its main cargoes are oil and its derivatives as well as bulk products. products mainly destined for ports in the United States and Canada, although it is also the connection with countries such as China and Japan. The work that also involves another vital port for the economic development of the country (Coatzacoalcos) works mainly on topographic research in the region for the laying of roads.

Tumin Chiapas, a project that promotes local commerce and solidarity with consumers

The Túmin is a community currency which is used in some States of Mexico, among them are Puebla, State of Mexico, San Luis Potosí, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas. It is used by small producers and merchants, who have agreed to reside in it, for at least 10% of the cost of their products.

The founder shared that the community currency emerged in Veracruz, through the media and organizations it was disseminated and expanded to other states.

Some services offered by people who use tumin are: bakery, carpentry, pottery, seamstresses, shoe stores, butchers, grocery stores, religious services in churches and, in products, they can find seeds, organic food, fruits, flowers, tortillas, plants, water. purified, honey, cheese and coffee.

They affirm that the community currency should be used, in order to have more cash to make purchases and that it does not go to large companies or countries, helping to promote local commerce, it also creates a sense of community identity, among others forms of interpersonal and commercial relationships.

In Chiapas, they want the currency to circulate better, they plan to implement a promotion coordination, since in San Cristóbal de Las Casas there are more than 100 persons who use this alternative currency, but there is no one who promotes trade and production, in the same way it would help people interested parties can request reports, register and participate.

In my personal opinion, this news seemed very interesting because it can be a great barrier and at the same time an opportunity for commerce, if we want to establish a business in any of these states. A high percentage of the population belong to indigenous groups which in some years will use the alternative currency Tumin, we might think that there may be legal problems since in Mexico the official currency is the peso, but it turns out that it is totally legal, according to the Penal Code In Mexico, what is prohibited in Article 234 is the issuance of "national or foreign banknotes and metallic pieces that are legal tender in the issuing country." As the Túmin is not a legal tender in Mexico, this law does not apply, which, as entrepreneurs, generates benefits, since national taxes cannot be paid in Tumin with this currency.

If we were to establish a business, we would most likely have to incorporate the Tumin currency into the company, which would be a barrier to capital, because the money generated could only be spent right there in the region and not throughout the country.

"Attempt to sell an emblematic hill in Oaxaca frustrated"

Members of the Oaxaca de Juárez council, most of whom adhere to the Morena party, frustrated the intention of the municipal president and co-religionist, Oswaldo García Jarquín, to divide and sell the emblematic "Cerro del Crestón", located in an ecological reserve area, to allocate that money to buy gasoline and additives from the commune's vehicle fleet.

  • In May 1937, President Lázaro Cárdenas issued the decree declaring as a Forbidden Forest Protective Zone “the lands that limit the City of Oaxaca”. This declaration, in addition to the Benito Juárez National Park, includes all the forest lands that surrounded the city, including the El Fortín and El Crestón hills.
  • In 1987. The city of Oaxaca and the archaeological site of Monte Alban are inscribed as historical sites on the UNESCO World Heritage list. In the case of the city, the hills of El Fortín and El Crestón are outstanding elements.

This news is important since this hill is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is also a Forbidden Forest Protective Zone and they want to sell part of it to buy gasoline and pay the SAT it seems to me something absurd that they stain part of the heritage only for money that is not known knows where those resources are going.

Oaxaca against alebrijes piracy

According to Azteca Noticias, Juan Pablo, Guzmán, Secretary of Economy of Oaxaca, made known the request for Geographical Indication before the Mexican Institute of Intellectual Property (IMPI) with the aim of protecting these crafts from international piracy, mainly of origin Chinese, and thus enhance its economic value.

If the request is approved, it would protect from plagiarism, theft or imitation of the work of various communities of artisans in Mexico, most of them within the state of Oaxaca because their elaboration is characteristic of this region.

San Pedro Taviche stands out as one of the Oaxacan municipalities that support the initiative, since it not only seeks the protection of alebrijes, but also of tonas, nahuales, wood carvings and fantastic animals.

This news is relevant to promote the art of the region, making the pieces increase their value in addition to safeguarding the cultural origin of the alebrijes.

Welcome Geobloggers!

Hi everyone! Welcome to our brand new project!

The purpose of this blog is to share news related to the three states that are part of the south pacific zone in Mexico: Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas.

This area covers 11.9% of the national territory and has the Sierra Madre del Sur, Sierra Madre Oriental and Chiapas as part of its relief, as well as being prone to volcanic and tectonic activity. Likewise, there are plateaus, central valleys of Oaxaca, and the plain of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec; and due to its rivers, the area is a good generator of hydroelectric energy.

The main economic centers are Acapulco, Salina Cruz, Tapachula and Oaxaca due to their constant port activity, both commercial and tourist.

Large crops of coffee, cotton, corn, sesame, sugar cane and cocoa can be found, as well as good production of cattle and oil.
