"Attempt to sell an emblematic hill in Oaxaca frustrated"

Members of the Oaxaca de Juárez council, most of whom adhere to the Morena party, frustrated the intention of the municipal president and co-religionist, Oswaldo García Jarquín, to divide and sell the emblematic "Cerro del Crestón", located in an ecological reserve area, to allocate that money to buy gasoline and additives from the commune's vehicle fleet.

  • In May 1937, President Lázaro Cárdenas issued the decree declaring as a Forbidden Forest Protective Zone “the lands that limit the City of Oaxaca”. This declaration, in addition to the Benito Juárez National Park, includes all the forest lands that surrounded the city, including the El Fortín and El Crestón hills.
  • In 1987. The city of Oaxaca and the archaeological site of Monte Alban are inscribed as historical sites on the UNESCO World Heritage list. In the case of the city, the hills of El Fortín and El Crestón are outstanding elements.

This news is important since this hill is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is also a Forbidden Forest Protective Zone and they want to sell part of it to buy gasoline and pay the SAT it seems to me something absurd that they stain part of the heritage only for money that is not known knows where those resources are going.
