Oaxaca against alebrijes piracy

According to Azteca Noticias, Juan Pablo, Guzmán, Secretary of Economy of Oaxaca, made known the request for Geographical Indication before the Mexican Institute of Intellectual Property (IMPI) with the aim of protecting these crafts from international piracy, mainly of origin Chinese, and thus enhance its economic value.

If the request is approved, it would protect from plagiarism, theft or imitation of the work of various communities of artisans in Mexico, most of them within the state of Oaxaca because their elaboration is characteristic of this region.

San Pedro Taviche stands out as one of the Oaxacan municipalities that support the initiative, since it not only seeks the protection of alebrijes, but also of tonas, nahuales, wood carvings and fantastic animals.

This news is relevant to promote the art of the region, making the pieces increase their value in addition to safeguarding the cultural origin of the alebrijes.
