OAXACA, Oax. November 7, 2020.- The 15 intervened chairs of the project called Calavera Chairs will be exhibited in the Aripo store so that they can admire them, and where appropriate, purchase them. As part of the Day of the Dead program, the Secretariat of Cultures and Arts of Oaxaca (Seculta), and the Oaxacan Institute of Handicrafts (IOA), inaugurated the exhibition “Sillas calavera”, which showed the skill and magic of artists in wood carving, intervention in textiles and other applications. The head of the Seculta, Karla Villacaña, recognized in a statement the talent of the artists and craftsmen who intervened 15 wooden chairs in their own style, imagination and skill, and which were exhibited in the facilities of the Aripo store, located at Calle de Manuel García Vigil 809.
In that vein, she thanked the IOA for the space provided in the Aripo store, and the artists and artisans for coming to the Seculta to create synergy and work as a team in this exhibition of "Calavera Chairs", which aims to reactivate the economy. in these sectors.
The results of this work will be available at the exhibition due to the Day of the Dead celebrations in Oaxaca and can be visited with security measures and safe distance in the Aripo store facilities. Among the artists who made this exhibition possible are the Taller de Barro Zamani de San Martín Tilcajete, made up of Teresa Jiménez, David Espinoza and Américo Espinoza with their piece entitled "Living Dead." The group belonging to the House of Culture of Santa Ana Zegache, formed by Alejandro Mendoza, Eleuteria Pacheco Mendoza, Edith Santos Méndez and Nancy Martínez Gaspar, with their piece titled "Dxi tu Gúl". Originally from San Antonio Arrazola, the brothers Paulino and Eduardo Ramírez, painter and carver respectively, participate with their piece "The Last Light"; Melitón Lazo Gutiérrez participates from Teotitlán del Valle with the piece called “Flor de piña”, and from the City of Oaxaca and currently living in Teotitlán del Valle, Marcos Lucero who presents “Bii Tugul” (Wind of the dead in Zapotec del Valle).
This news is relevant since, as mentioned, it was a cultural activity to reactivate the economy, Oaxaca is a cultural reference worldwide, thanks to the quality and talent of the artisans and artists. On this occasion the state and the Seculta opened their doors to promote, disseminate and promote the art and culture of the entity.
With these types of events and actions that with these actions the artisan and artistic sector is strengthened, which due to the pandemic have been affected, and contributes so that Oaxaca continues to be present in the world through talent.
