By November 26, 2020, according to the newspaper "El economista", the South-Southeast zone of the country (which includes the South Pacific Zone in its entirety, that is, the states of Oaxaca, Guerrero and Chiapas) showed dynamism in the production value of the construction sector in contrast to the fall within the same industry at the national level caused by the covid-19 pandemic, with Oaxaca being the leader in this branch, being the entity in the country that has had the most annual growth in that field.
Oaxaca reported a growth of its annual value in construction from 15% to 35%, being Chiapas with a growth of 10.3% and Guerrero with a growth of 12.3%.
According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, during September of this year, construction in Mexico generated 21,243 million pesos, an amount that meant an annual drop of 25.2% in real terms. With this result, there are already 27 annual decreases in a row, that is, more than two years in negative lands.
The foregoing shows that the health emergency exacerbated the decline in this industry (in April and May the worst historical results were obtained, with decreases of 31.5 and 34.6%, respectively, due to the fact that they were months of total confinement and stoppage of non-essential activities) , but the lag is from before, due to the cutback to public investment by the Federation.
This behavior in Oaxaca derived from the injection of resources made by the Private Initiative. The increases in construction came from the private sector, with triple-digit variations, while public works show annual contractions since the beginning of 2019.
