Acapulco government bets on "saving" Christmas season

To save the Christmas and New Year tourist season, the Government of Acapulco headed by President Adela Román Ocampo intensifies awareness-raising actions with the aim of curbing COVID-19 infections among visitors and residents. According to a bulletin, the Municipal Tourism Secretary, José Luis Basilio Talavera, reported that the preventive measures implemented in the municipality are intended to keep Guerrero in the orange phase and advance to the yellow of the epidemiological traffic light.

He indicated that all agencies have the responsibility to participate in the mitigation of the pandemic and that the tasks have been reinforced in the tourist area in coordination with the directorates of Health and the Institute of Youth.

The news is important because the idea is not to stop tourist activity, they are at an orange traffic light and I know they have to hold another week, but the intention is not to return to the red light because it would be catastrophic, that would represent the closure of companies and beaches , layoffs of staff and lack of income for families and the economy must be reactivated again.

The use of face masks in Acapulco is mandatory, a measure that tourists must respect and that is why the brigades carry out on the ground and peripherally to raise awareness that personal protection will prevent infections from increasing, after recognizing that when the port registers high occupation present new cases of COVID-19 in subsequent days. The hotel occupancy this Saturday in Acapulco registered 37.3 percent.

The Diamond zone registered 40.7 percent, the Golden 37.8 percent and the Traditional zone reached 21 percentage points. During this holiday bridge of the Revolution, the arrival of more than 60 thousand visitors from different states of the country and foreign tourists is expected, who will generate an economic income of approximately 160 million pesos, according to calculations of the expenditure they will make in their stay of two three days in port.
