Mexico is the fifth place in the production of mango
worldwide and first place of export with 360,000 tons to the international
markets, the main destinations being the United States, Canada and Japan, among
others being the state of Oaxaca the fifth Mango producer in the territory,
where 87% of its production is concentrated in the Isthmus region, allocating
approximately 55,000 tons for export in the agricultural cycle.
However, 97% of producers are small, have low productivity
and lack sufficient technology to incorporate automated services for their
production, which makes even more difficult for them to grow. Mexico only has
one Designation of Origin for the Mango, which is the Ataúlfo Mango from the
Soconusco region in Chiapas (which is also part of the South Pacific area), a
state that Adjoins the Isthmus of Oaxaca and that by having a denomination of
origin affects the competitiveness against Oaxaca, which does not have large
producers, which due to unforeseen plantings have greater barriers to
financing, however the Instituted Trusts in Relation to Agriculture (FIRA) is
planning to align their strategy with the guidelines with the objective of
helping the growth of this market in the aforementioned area, mainly seeking to
implement the organization of producers and supplier development programs. I
think it is very important to support the states of this region because it’s
very rich in resources but the government don’t give them the proper attention
to activate the development in such a good area.
